Monkeys and Rats Are Not Susceptible to Ferret Hepatitis E Virus Infection

چکیده

Ferret hepatitis E virus (HEV), a novel hepatitis E-like virus, has been identified in ferrets in the Netherlands, Japan, and the US. To determine whether ferret HEV transmits to other animals, we inoculated laboratory rats (Wistar), nude rats (Long-Evans-rnu/rnu), and cynomolgus monkeys with ferret HEV (F4351) by intravenous injection. None of the animals demonstrated a positive sign for virus replication, indicating that rats and monkeys are not susceptible to ferret HEV. © 2015 S. Karger AG, Basel Hepatitis E virus (HEV), a small round nonenveloped single-strand-positive RNA virus, is the sole member of the genus Hepevirus in the family Hepeviridae [1] . Hepevirus includes four genotypes of HEV that have been isolated from humans (G1, G2, G3, and G4 HEV) and cause acute hepatitis E [2] . Swine, wild boars, deer, and mongooses are the reservoirs for G3 and G4 HEV, and these HEVs can be transmitted from these animals to humans, suggesting that hepatitis E is a zoonotic disease [3] . Hepatitis E Virus in Rats, Los Angeles, California, USA

The role of rats in human hepatitis E virus (HEV) infections remains controversial. A genetically distinct HEV was recently isolated from rats in Germany, and its genome was sequenced. We have isolated a genetically similar HEV from urban rats in Los Angeles, California, USA, and characterized its ability to infect laboratory rats and nonhuman primates. Two strains of HEV were isolated from ser...

فراوانی هپاتیت E در بیماران مبتلا به ویروس نقص ایمنی انسانی بر اساس روش مولکولی در اصفهان

Background: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is from Hepeviridae family and genus Hepevirus. This virus is in 4 genotypes. These 4 genotypes are classified in 2 classes. In first class there are genotypes 1 and 2 which are specific for human. Genotypes 1 and 2 are not developed to chronic hepatitis is spite to genotypes 3 and 4 which may develop to chronic hepatitis in immunocompromised patients. It sho...

Seroprevalence of Hepatitis E Virus Infection among Patients with Acute Hepatitis Symptoms in Ahvaz, Iran

Background and Aims: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is considered as one of the common causes of acute viral hepatitis in the world, particularly in the developing countries. It also causes fulminant hepatitis in pregnant women. Although HEV infection in Iran is endemic, there are numerous reports of epidemics caused by this infection in this part of the world. This study aimed to determine seropreval...

Current progress in the development of therapeutic vaccines for chronic hepatitis B virus infection

Chronic hepatitis B is still a major public health issue despite the successful prophylactic vaccination attempts. Chronicity of hepatitis B virus(HBV) is mainly due to its ability to debilitate host's immune system. Therefore, major measures have been taken to stop this process and help patients with chronic hepatitis B infection recover from their illness. While satisfactory results have been...
